Transportation

****Very important to read this entire page BEFORE booking your airfare****

Art Camp takes place in the heart of the Colorado Rockies at the YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch between Winter Park and Granby, CO which is about a 2 1/2 hour drive west of Denver on I-70 and over Berthoud Pass.  You are responsible for arranging and booking your transportation to/from Snow Mountain Ranch.

Driving to Camp

We recommend you use maps.google.com/ for driving directions.  Enter the address as “Snow Mountain Ranch-YMCA, 1101 County Road 53, Granby, CO, 80446″.  Don’t use mapquest.com as it will give you incorrect directions.

Directions from Denver:

  • From I-25 take I-70 west to Exit #232 (US 40 to Empire/Granby).
  • On US 40, travel north over Berthoud Pass and through Winter Park approximately 45 miles.
  • Snow Mountain Ranch’s entrance is 12 miles past Winter Park on the left (west) side of US 40.
  • Follow the road approximately 1 mile to the stop sign, turn left into the parking lot and check in at the Administration Building.  The Snow Mountain Ranch staff will give you a map and directions to our lodge.

Flying to Camp

Fly into Denver International Airport (DIA) (airport code DEN)

Southwest airlines www.southwest.com is a good place to look for airfare – you get two free bags and there is no fee to change or cancel your reservation if your plans change.

*IMPORTANT* Before you make your airline reservation, read the “Ground Transportation” information below.  There is only one shuttle per day from DIA to Snow Mountain Ranch and back to DIA.  You will need to coordinate your air travel itinerary with the shuttle schedule. It is about a 2 1/2 hour drive from YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch to DIA so allow plenty of time for traffic/weather conditions when booking your return flight.

Ground Transportation

“Home James” shuttle service to/from DIA and YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch

There is only one shuttle per day to and from the airport (DIA) and the YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch.  On the day you arrive for camp, you should book your flight so that you arrive at DIA by 12:15 to allow enough time to retrieve checked luggage and meet the shuttle which leaves DIA at 1:00 pm to drive to YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch.   On the departure day, the shuttle will leave YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch at 9:15 am and arrives at DIA at noon.  Book your flight home at 1:30 or later to leave enough time to arrive at the airport, check luggage and clear security.  You must make a reservation with http://homejamestransportation.com or 1-800-359-7503.   As of November 2011, the shuttle costs $70.00 each way ($140 round trip).  It is about a 2 1/2 hour drive from YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch to DIA – allow plenty of time for traffic/weather conditions when booking your airline reservation.

Rent a Car (not recommended)

You can always rent a car, however, once you arrive at camp, you will not need it.  If you are not used to driving in the mountains, the 2 1/2 hour drive from Denver, which takes you west on I-70 and over Berthoud Pass and possible poor weather conditions, can be stressful.  We will have beautiful crisp spring and fall weather that can range from short sleeve temperatures to an occasional snow flurry.  We don’t recommend starting and ending your wonderful relaxing creative week with a stressful drive in the mountains!
