FABRIC ARTS Our resident fabric artist, Lorri Flint's "Wired for Sound" was juried into the "Colors of Life: The Fiber Art of the Front Range Contemporary Quilters" exhibit hosted by the Carnegie Arts Center, 204 West 4th St., Alliance, Nebraska, 69301. The exhibit runs from May 19 - June 29, 2009.
My son and his electric guitar moved me to capture a doodle of whimsical guitars on a 3" square of paper, which lived on my design wall for several years.
The guitars are my hand-dyed fabric. The painted quilted background was inspired by patterns on the front of electric amplifiers.
Juror, Jane Sauer, founder of the Jane Sauer Gallery, Santa Fe, New Mexico, says "I can almost hear the sound from these musical instruments. They are full of movement and the notes seem to fill the air. I presume from the image that the necks of the instruments leave the rectangle of the background which I like very much also. The background seems to support the sound of music in a subtle manner which I also like. The shapes of the instruments handsomely lead to the overall meaning of the piece."
